Edelrid Talon Rework - 2017 Manufacturing Year

12/04/18

UPDATE June 2018: Edelrid has addressed the issues stated below. All Talons sold after June 2018 are the reworked and improved models.

February 2018: Edelrid has issued a call for revision and reworking of the Edelrid Talon Climbing Gaffs.

What happened?

A number of customers have had problems with the velcro on the Edelrid Talons, including the velcro connecting the pad to the shell and the velcro straps. There have also been a few instances of damage to the plastic cuff. No one has been injured as a result of these issues.

Which Talons are affected?

All Edelrid Talon Climbing Gaffs sold between July 2017 and February 2018.

What steps has Edelrid taken?

Edelrid has developed replacement components for the affected parts of the Talon. They have been unable to recreate the above issues even after thorough and extreme testing. Edelrid is offering to replace these parts for Talon owners for free.

Can I use my Talons?

TreeStuff's recommendation is to immediately stop use.

What do I do?

Option 1: If you purchased your Talon gaffs from TreeStuff.com, you can send them back to us for a full refund, whether or not your gaffs show damage. Contact TreeStuff customer service (info@treestuff.com or 317-293-3401) for a free shipping label.

Option 2: Send your Talons back to Edelrid to have replacement plastic cuffs and velcro installed at no cost, not even shipping. Reworked models are now available. Click here for details, or reference Edelrid's FAQ sheet.
