Notes about Air compressors with the Air-Spade:

  • CFM (cubic feet per minute) is a measure of the amount of air flowing
  • PSI (pounds per square inch) is a measure of the air pressure
  • The Standard Air-Spade requires a minimum of 175 CFM (most air compressors are 175 or 185 CFM)
  • Arborists typically rent a 185 CFM air compress and set the PSI at 100 or more
  • Operating the Air-Spade at higher then required CFM or PSI is fine, but lower then required results in poor performance
  • Some moisture is needed in the soil to make it more poruous. Consider soaking ground that is totally dry before use.
