Reviews for Peltor Helmet Mounted Optime 105 Hearing Protectors

What?! I can't hear you... - 01/01/2016
Reviewer: Tom Dunlap

The seals on my Kask muffs wore out so it was time for replacement. I ordered the new seal kit for the muffs. But I upgraded to this Peltor muff to get more protection.

When I have them on, with no engines/chippers or noise around, I can't hear a normal conversation unless the other person is about 5' away. With the original hearing pro I could hear 'better' with the muffs on. That's not what I want.

The tiny added weight is sure not a concern of mine since I get so much more hearing protection.

The other muffs will work for using the snowblower and lawn mower!

These offer the best protection I've experienced. Very comfortable and tight fitting. Sure they're a little bulky, but I honestly don't notice them on my kask when moving around the tree.

Good but bulky - 01/03/2014

These work well but they are big and on the heavier side.

Nice seal. - 03/29/2013

The 105 has a very nice cushion seal that works well with eye glasses. Obviously, the seal is compromised by the frame arms resting on the ears, but I find the noise increase is marginal. If you really want to quiet things down, add a pair of foam ear plugs. Noise reduction is additive on the Decibel scale. So a 27 db reduction plus a 25+ db ear plug will give you over 50 db reduction, which is HUGE. Of course the attenuation varies with frequency, but the decibel addition holds true regardless. If I'm in circumstances that require me to 'recover' my hearing and I have ear plugs in with the muffs, I use the corded foam plugs which allow for quick removal of the foam plugs. As a practical matter while in a tree, I find the in-tree saw doesn't warrant the use of ear plugs in addition to these muffs. Putting ear plugs in while aloft is, um, well...

As an aside, Tree Stuff does sell the kit to replace the seal and foam padding inside the cup as the seal is a 'wear' item. I always keep one kit around.

Good set of Muffs - 03/17/2013

Nothing too complicated about these but they are one of the quietest sets of hearing protectors out there. I also like the wire style because the wires can be bent and tweaked to give a better fit and d a better seal.

They call me muffy now - 03/06/2013

I have had these muffs for approximately 3 years. They give decent protection from sound and they are comfortable. One of the muffs broke off rather easily when it caught a branch. Also, the plastic seal is pealing. So I wish they would make them more durable.
